Free Drop in Sports, Recreation and More

All Banff residents are eligible for free drop in sessions.

  • Free activities include yoga, pilates, soccer, pickleball, and more.

  • Limited spots are available.

  • Residents 18 years and older need to pay an annual administrative fee of $10.

Bow Valley Kidsport

  • Get help paying your child’s registration fees for sports.

  • Grants of up to $500 per child, per year for children under the age of 18.

Recreation Programs and Classes

 

You can attend courses, and take part in sports and recreation programs from yoga, to first aid and outdoor adventures.

  • Courses and activities are for all age groups.

  • Some programs are free.

  • We loan equipment for free: tennis, basketball, football, badminton, croquet, and more.

Bow Valley Canadian Tire Jumpstart

  • The Jumpstart program helps kids from low income families participate in organized sport and recreation.

  • The program covers the costs of registration, equipment, and transportation.

  • Receive up to $250 for children’s recreational activities.

Family Activities

Banff is a family-friendly town.

  • The Family Resource Network provides support to parents and caregivers.

  • Free drop-in Family Connections play space for parents and their children 0-5 years old.

Language, Literacy and Learning

 

There are many ways to learn English.

  • You can choose online, home study, or classroom learning.

  • Programs are free or low-cost.

Learning programs for everyone.

  • Reading and writing skills (literacy), computer skills, and problem solving skills to help you in everyday life and work.

  • Free and low-cost programs and supports for adult learners.

  • Receive a 50% discount with a Banff Access or Canmore Affordable Services card.

Garbage and Recycling

 

Wildlife-proof garbage and recycling bins are located in all neighborhoods for you to take your items to for disposal.

  • Eliminate waste wherever possible, recycle and compost all eligible materials to help Banff achieve Zero Waste going to landfill by the year 2050.

  • There are separate bins for food waste, paper, glass, and garbage.

  • Waste attracts wildlife and if you see garbage or recycling bins that need emptying, or if there is garbage around the bins, call the Town of Banff emergency operations line, 403.762.1240. After hours, press 2 for an on-call specialist.

Re-Use It Centre

 

Find something you need at the Re-Use It Centre. Lots of free household items available to residents who can use them.

  • Items include books, toys, non-upholstered furniture, dishes, small appliances, and outdoor gear.

  • You can also drop off items you no longer want for someone else to use.

Free pick-up is available for large unwanted items that can be re-used.

  • Items include large appliances, furniture, tires, yard waste, and clothing.

  • Schedule a free pick-up online.
